Looking In

Taking a short break from the series of photos I took on our trip to California to post a few others. This is Echo the Cat, seemingly informing me that if I take a picture around the house it better be of him and no one else. I do love how the cats insert themselves in most of the photos I try to take at home.
OMG! Like, seals!! Again!!!

Really, not much beats the sight of a sleeping seal. Or maybe that’s just me. If it is, then worry not — this is the last of the seal pictures. For now, at least. I may process and upload a few more in the future.
Making an Escape

Beach birds escape the surf, then follow the retreating water along the sand to look for buried food.
Marin Coast

A section of coastline along the Marin Headlands. Evening light shines through an oncoming fog, warming the light.
Busy Bee II

Another bee, another Yosemite flower, another practice session with a macro lens. For variety, I processed this one in black and white.
Under Surveillance

Everywhere I traveled along this field, I was under the watchful eye of this particular cow.
Marin Lighthouse

A lighthouse battles fog along a rocky coast in Marin County, California, just a few miles from the Golden Gate Bridge.
Feasting Fawn

We startled this fawn while on a walk near the ocean. After watching us for a while, it apparently decided that we were no threat and decided to continue snacking on the surrounding brush.
Thistle Tips

I imagine this one will receive some mixed reactions because of the choice of depth of field. This is another experiment with the borrowed macro lens. In this case, I was playing with depth of field. You can view the same flower, a thistle, here.
As Seen on TV

This photo, taken from the balcony of the Watsonville condo where we spent a week, is pretty much straight out of the camera. Part of me just wants to enjoy the lovely scene. The rest of me thinks it looks like a sappy ad for Hallmark or long-distance or something. You decide.
More Seals! How Very Original!

In case you couldn’t tell, I just can’t get enough of the harbor seals. By all rights they should be boring creatures since all they seem to do is swim, sleep, and yawn (as is the case with the seal in the middle). Instead, I find them intriguing and absolutely adorable. Which is why there will be another harbor seal shot after this one (spaced out, of course, for variety’s sake).
Marin County Headlands

It looks as if piracy is alive and well in the Marin County Headlands near the Golden Gate Bridge. In truth, it is probably a tourist boat, but with the ship, low light, and fog, it is easy for me to let my imagination run wild when I look at this scene.
A Trio of Jellies

It may be stretching it to categorize this photo of three jellies as “wildlife” since I actually took the photo at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. But this is my disclaimer, so I’m calling it good. They were too gorgeous to resist, and while the lighting made photography extremely difficult I had to try. After all, how often am I likely to see jellies like this in the wild? Answer: A few days later in the bay near the Santa Cruz boardwalk. The good news was that I was on the pier, far above the floating jelly, and the beautiful creature was far from the beach. Bad news? Although I had my camera with me, the lighting and angle were absolutely wrong for a good shot. So these lovelies will have to do.
