A hummingbird rests post-flight. This one took a while to get. These birds are fast!

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of a humming bird in it’s nest. I guess after all that hovering they need a break! Very nice shot.

  2. Nice capture Caryn. They are almost impossible to catch at rest. Well done.

  5. What a very tiny nest they have, is that common?

@Chantal, I had no idea if this nest was typical, so I looked it up and all the photos I found showed small nests. One had two baby hummingbirds in it, and they could barely fit. So I guess it is pretty common. Me? I’d want something a little roomier, but I guess they like the coziness.

  9. What a great shot! I’ve seen their nests on a couple of occasions and they are incredibly small. I’ve seen a couple of hummingbirds at rest, but that doesn’t seem to last very long in any case. However, I have never seen one nesting. Your patience really paid off!
