Best. Winter. Ever.

NOT from the archives! Crocus buds and, below, tulip greens in our backyard. Taken yesterday morning. It’s a tradition of mine to take photos of the first crocuses, to celebrate and document the end of winter and arrival of spring. The tulips were just a bonus.

@fabrizio, Thanks! Though I decided years ago that the first crocus of the year means spring is here. My own personal policy, even if the calendar doesn’t agree!

@Chantal, That’s what makes this winter so great! Although I took it at the tail end of January, there were already flowers. The mild weather makes for a nice (and short!) winter. :-)

@Len Saltiel, Thanks! My camera has some trouble with yellows for some reason – they become blown-out and over-saturated and gaudy – so I had to play with it a while to make it look like the one in our backyard. It was fun playing, though!

@rian, Thanks! I was so excited to see the crocuses that I ran right out and started taking pictures first thing yesterday morning.

  8. Can’t believe you’re already seeing signs of spring. Not sure if I’d call it the ‘best’ winter..but sure is an easy one. Gorgeous colors in these images!
