I imagine this one will receive some mixed reactions because of the choice of depth of field. This is another experiment with the borrowed macro lens. In this case, I was playing with depth of field. You can view the same flower, a thistle, here.

A Trio of Jellies

Posted by on Sep 1, 2008 in California, Experimental, Photography, Wildlife | 8 comments

It may be stretching it to categorize this photo of three jellies as “wildlife” since I actually took the photo at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. But this is my disclaimer, so I’m calling it good. They were too gorgeous to resist, and while the lighting made photography extremely difficult I had to try. After all, how often am I likely to see jellies like this in the wild? Answer: A few days later in the bay near the Santa Cruz boardwalk. The good news was that I was on the pier, far above the floating jelly, and the beautiful creature was far from the beach. Bad news? Although I had my camera with me, the lighting and angle were absolutely wrong for a good shot. So these lovelies will have to do.

Raindrops on Roses

Posted by on Jun 11, 2008 in Experimental, Macro, Plants & Flowers | 6 comments

One evening I decided to enjoy the post-rain evening cool by taking a walk through my neighborhood. When I saw this rosebush, I had to investigate further. After taking a variety of shots, I finally just stuck my camera inside a rose, focused, and took a few shots. This is the result.

Psychadelic Flowers

Sometimes I’m almost glad when a photograph does not come out the way I intended because it gives me room for experimentation. This is one such example.
