Monarch Butterfly

We’ve been away from home for a few days, visiting my husband’s family. A visit to a local butterfly garden yielded this gorgeous monarch. I was loving the textures and patterns so much, I converted it to black and white in order to show them off better.
Snacking Chipmunk

Chipmunks may be a dime a dozen, but how many have the guts to climb a cactus like this one for a little snack?
Hummingbird

Boy can these little guys move! Although I took this one inside an aviary at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum (yes, I admit it in the interest of full disclosure) this sucker was still awfully hard to pin down. He’s so handsome and regal, though, that the difficulties were worth it.
In other news, I ordered Photoshop CS4 on a screaming deal. I had it delivered to work on Friday, but I ended up leaving on a family emergency before I could pick it up. Can’t wait to grab it today! I’ve already started reserching HDR photos and actions and so many other cool options, though other Photoshop suggestions would be kindly received as well – especially since I expect to be totally overwhelmed when I open it up for the first time! No problem. I was overwhelmed when I first tried to use my Nikon D60, and within weeks (or, okay, months for some features) it became second nature.
Yes. It’s exactly what it looks like.

I’d been in Tucson approximately four hours before I nearly stepped on this Western Diamondback rattlesnake while hiking. Read the full story on my regular blog.
Landing Zone

An osprey zooms in for a landing while its shy chicks wait for their meal in the safety and privacy of their nest.
